Cebu City may soon have its own environment-friendly mass transport system: a hybrid electric road train that can accommodate at least 200 passengers at a time.
This was after the city government signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Science and Technology on the proposed system, GMA Cebu’s Vic Serna reported Thursday.
Under the agreement, the DOST is to send a Filipino-designed prototype hybrid electric road train to Cebu City in August.
If the city government approves of the design, the DOST will offer the technology to the private sector via a public-private partnership.
For its part, the Cebu City Integrated Traffic Operations Management showed possible routes to be taken by the proposed system.
